A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting

Kitty Hart is gaining some renown as a cat sitter who posts on social media. She has her regulars and is slowly adding people on. People like Miles Thorn. Well, his mother, anyway, who needs a sitter for her cat. Unfortunately, the first meeting is beyond awkward. But as the two get to know each other more, they start to figure out that their lives are similar in enough ways to make them compatible. And that the two of them together might be able to work to move beyond the things that are keeping them in the past.

Organizing for the Rest of Us by Dana K. White

Most of this book boils down to seeing different things as containers and making sure that whatever you have fits in that container.
I am single- most of this book is geared toward families.
No nonsense, this is a decent book but nothing really new.

Spy x Family, Vol. 9 by Tatsuya Endo

Anya and her "parents are still on board the princess Lorelai. Yor is battling a group of villains while Loid is trying to disarm the bombs on board. Anya is trying to help, all without letting her family know she is psychic.
We get a story with Bond saving a number of people though Loid doesnt know what is going on.
The last story introduces Mistress Schlag. She lives to give the children a tonitrus. She expels students the fastest of any other teachers. It does give Anya a chance to put Damian in her debt when he forgets a handkerchief.
Another great addition to the series.

A Botanist's Guide to Parties and Poisons by Kate Khavari

Saffron Everleigh is a researcher at the University College of London. She is trying to navigate through a world changed by WWI and one that is not generally open to young ladies. This includes navigating overtures and gossip. What it doesn't normally contain is attempted murder.
With the rest of the faculty in her department, Saffron is invited to a dinner party. She is not worried about how to behave (there are some allusions to wealthy grandparents) but she is worried about encountering the department head who tried to attack her. Everyone is gathered to talk about a new expedition that will be taking place shortly. That doesn't mean there isn't some intrigue as various people melt out to balconys or find places for a rendezvous. Saffron almost finds herself in a sticky situation when she accidentally meets Alexander Ashton, a researcher she just met, in a darkened hallway. They are almost discovered by Mrs. Henry: her husband is leading the expedition and she is the person who is poisoned later in the evening.
Saffron probably wouldn't have gotten involved but the police have arrested her mentor and father figure Dr. Maxwell. She decides to mount an investigation of her own that may or may not end up putting her in a precarious situation.

A Tempest at Sea Lady Sherlock by Sherry Thomas

Charlotte Holmes is dead. At least that's where she was presumed to be at the end of the last book. Now, she has the chance to come back under the protection of Lord Remington (not a fail safe but no small measure) if she can help him find a missing dossier. It has been some time but she has hopes that she will be able to get some information from a governess, Frau Schmidt, who will be sailing on the Provence. Coincidentally, Charlotte's sister Livia will be on board as will Charlotte's lover, Lord Ingram and his two children. Also boarding the ship are an old adversary of Charlotte's, Inspector Brighton, and the man who made such a massive failure of Charlotte's attempt to ruin herself, Roger Shrewsbury.
Shrewsbury once again marks himself inept as he makes an unpleasant remark about a young woman boarding the boat with her brother. Her brother, a wealthy man, takes exception to the remark and punches Shrewsbury. So the trip is off to an interesting start. It gets more interesting when the brother is murdered and Inspector Brighton is asked to look into the mystery. Is he actually solving the crime or is he trying to suss out more information about Holmes?
The mystery is not exactly linear as beats of the story are interspersed with more information about what actually happened the night of the crime. I think regular readers will enjoy the story but there is a lot of information that gets tacked on, especially at the end, that has no bearing on this story.

The Sweetheart List by Jill Shalvis

This book mainly focuses on Harper Shaw though there are a number of other stories that get pulled in. Harper is moving to Lake Tahoe to open a bakery. She doesn't start off on the right foot with her landlord, Bodie Campbell who is mourning the loss of his father as well as his career. Harper also meets Ivy, a teenage runaway, who reminds Harper a lot of herself.
As Harper begins to get closer to the people in the town, the ties she sees begin to get more and more complicated. There is also a B plot with Bodie's brother and a woman that Harper is slowly starting to make friends with.
This was a fast, fun, and fluffy book but I didn't feel like I got to know any of the characters really well and I wished for more interaction between Harper and Bodie to really get a sense of their HEA.

The Legacies by Jessica Goodman

I saw that a friend of mine had read this books and reviewed it highly so I thought I'd give it a chance. It didn't capture my attention as much as it did her but it was an interesting book.
If you get into the Legacy Club, you are pretty much guaranteed that you are set for the rest of life. This year, there are three young people whose entree is pretty much ensured, Bernie, Isobel, and Skylar. They each of something which might prevent them from getting in but all three also want to make it through the week of hazing to capture a seat in the club. Who or what could possibly stop them? Not even Tori, the nominee from some no-known family in Queens. Will all four make it to the end of the week and be able to celebrate at the Legacy ball?

The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer

This is Shaffer's first published book and, while very enjoyable, reads to me a lot like a number of YA books that feature a reclusive artist setting up a game (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mr. Lemoncello's Library, etc.) except that the main focus is on Lucy Hart, 24 years old. When she was younger, Lucy became enchanted with a series of books set on Clock Island. They were written by Jack Masterson and Lucy, a younger child whose older sister was ill so she was often left by herself, wanted nothing more than to be his sidekick. So she went to the island. But she was sent home. Years later, she is a teacher's aide who wants nothing more than to adopt a boy in her school. But she is in debt, living with a number of roommates, and doesn't have a car. In other words, not a great candidate for adoption. But then, Jack announces a contest and the person who wins will get his latest manuscript. Lucy is one of the four people invited.
In thinking about the book after I read it, I don't know much about Lucy other than the high points above nor anyone else in the book, including Hugo Reese, the man who ended up illustrating the newer editions of Jack's books and the other person featured in this story. And a couple of times I forgot I wasn't reading a YA book - I think it was partly the set up but also partly the language and perhaps a bit the fact that excerpts from Jack's stories are interspersed in the story. But I really did enjoy this book and hope that Shaffer keeps writing.

Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts

Rowan Tripp is a smoke jumper in Missoula, Montana, like her famous father before her. She loves her life and isn't ready to open her heart to anyone. But this is a romance novel so... Gulliver Curry is one of the new recruits and even though Ro doesn't want to be attracted to him, Gulliver worms his way into her heart.
Of course, the course of true love can't run smooth. Last summer, Rowan's jump partner died in a jump. This year, his lover, Dolly is back with his child. And so is his brother. And most of the rest of the crew. Which is bad, because somebody has it out for the crew this year. And then the bodies start to pile up and Rowan has to be fast on her feet to avoid being dead.

Mindset by Carol S. Dweck

The bottom line always comes down to having a growth mindset. Yes, there are things in life that are fixed but many things can be improved through more learning. I did like the addition of the groupthink but otherwise this was a bit redundant.

Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts

Declan Fitzgerald's family is decidedly northern, which makes it so strange that he's drawn to buy a
supposedly haunted plantation house. One where a a woman died many years ago, killed by her husband's twin. He's also drawn to Angelina Simone, local bar owner. She is mysterious and gypsy-like and she's drawn to him as well. They'll have to battle their own attractions as well as threats both parental and supernatural.

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano

At the end of the last book, Finlay and Vero found themselves in the sights of Feliks Zhirov, Russian mob boss. He wants her to find out who the killer is that goes by the name EasyClean. All she wants to do is clean up her eating habits, stop having bodies in her minivan, and avoid all men. This addition to her list is not helpful. Especially since she and Vero find themselves in the police academy. And who is one of the trainers? Nick? Oh yea. But also there is EasyClean as well as Finlay's noisy neighbor.

How are they ever going to get through this one?
Very funny, just like the other books. The Nick/Finlay relationship is a little drawn out and something needs to happen soon but otherwise an enjoyable read.

Magic Tides by Ilona Andrews

I think everyone knew that Kate and Curran would never be able to keep a low profile. They managed for seven years after they left Atlanta but it's all about to blow up for them. And it starts when Conlan brings his friend home. The friend's family member has been stolen by a local group that collects children but was the teen targeted? Kate is ready to go mete out some justice. Curran agrees that she should do it but asks that she keeps a low profile. It should be something that Kate can do but there's only so low a profile you can keep an underwater cult, a maybe god, and a Kraken that are all involved.
It's good to see these two again and watching them build their lives is like revisiting old friends.

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

It all started with a song. Or maybe it was a smell. Maybe it was the twinges and her lower back becoming pangs. But whatever it was, Viv had become dissatisfied with the life she was leading And she thinks she's discovered a way to get out. It involves a leap of faith on her part, trusting that she's interpreted a song correctly. It also means leaving her old group, some of whom she'll miss.
Following her intuition and a set of bones that sense ley lines, Viv ends up at a rundown livery. She searches out the owner and starts building her new life.
I play D&D so a lot of this felt very familiar. I liked the way that Baldree flipped the script on what a succubus looks like. He made it more of a power and less an unending search for sex. There were a few places that dragged just a bit but I liked the characters and I look forward to more in this series.

Glitterland by Alexis Hall

I adore Hall but this was a challenging book for me. We are so much in the head of Ash Winters who is so in the midst of upheaval that it was hard to read.
Ash is in the midst of a self-destructive spiral when he meets Darian Taylor. It begins as a one night stand. Ash doesn't even remember Darian's name. But the two meet again, accidentally, and start to realize that they just might be perfect for each other.

Release the Hounds! by Lincoln Peirce

Once again, Nate is in the midst of a number of happenings. His father is handing out healthy treats
(though it helps to have a Chad if you are looking for the good candy. Nate gets injured at a soccer game but is delighted that his team fails without him and decides to take a stab at coaching. He also has to push Gina and her fragrant air freshener out of the student lounge (by taking off his shoes), but even Teddy questions his methods.

What Happens in the Ballroom by Sabrina Jeffries

I like Sabrina Jeffries but some books more than others. I was looking forward to Eliza's story as she was set up as a widow whose marriage maybe wasn't as perfect as it appeared. In this book, she is hired to find a husband for a young woman whose husband was also in the military. The man hiring her is her dead husband's friend, Nathaniel Stanton, Earl of Foxstead. And he's being squirrely. Because he has a secret. Well, lots of secrets. WAY too many secrets for me when it gets just. so. dramatic. Also just. so. dramatic? Nathaniel and Eliza getting together. I wish we had less back and forth and more after the two are together so we could be better assured of an HEA.
Why three stars when I'm being so snarky? Jeffries is a good writer. I made it through the book and connected with the characters enough not to hate either one. And I'm still looking forward to the next book in the series.

This Heart of Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

It is a testament to Susan Elizabeth Phillips writing that there is some major WTFery and I still somewhat enjoyed the book.
Molly Somerville is the younger sister of Phoebe from It Had to be You. In that book, we saw her as a gawky teenager. She doesn't feel like she's changed much other than becoming a fairly successful children's author. And she has a crush on Kevin Tucker that results in the aforementioned WTFery.
Molly is a complicated character; she does a bad thing but she does realize (belatedly) that she was very, very wrong. She's a screw-up who has been masquerading as someone who's perfect. But she's not and Kevin takes great delight in pointing that out. Not that he's perfect. He knows he's getting close to the end of his football career and his childhood was... interesting. Most of his summers were spent at a summer camp run by his minister father and attended by gray hairs. When he and Molly need to get away for awhile, the camp seems like the perfect place to go.
But it's not the place he remembers. It's full of family, fun, and now... Molly.

The Backup Plan by Jill Shalvis

Alice, Knox, and Lauren have a shared past. Lauren was involved with Alice's brother (Knox's best friend) but he died. Now the three have been brought together because Lauren's great aunt died and left them a B&B. Well, it's going to be a B&B. And they'll only inherit if they all stick around. But there's an even stickier past that starts to come to light as they all work together.
There are so many layers to this story that none of them get truly developed. We know that Alice fears going back in the barn, Lauren is on the verge of losing her job, and Knox... well, we don't get to know Knox all that well. But the book is still a lovely read and, if you don't want to go to deep into emotions and are looking for a closed door romance, this will be the book for you.
