Lucky O'Toole isn't sure what's going on in her hotel and she doesn't like it. A man staggers into her lobby and dies and a Senator is implicated. It probably has to do with the football team coming to town which should be good for business but the players are causing more problems than they're worth. One of them is running a party out of her Secret Suite and Lucky knows nothing about it. Romeo, her cop friend and mentee, is keeping secrets. And then there's the fact that she's wondering whether her incomparable fiance is really the man for her.

Lucky Ride by Deborah Coonts

Lucky is barely back from China when she is dumped into another mystery, one that is tied to her mother's past. Could it be that Mona had another child at some point? Too bad the girl that is claiming that relationship is under suspicion for murder. Without a rest, Lucky is thrown into the world of rodeo.
I keep going back and forth on finishing this series. There are only three more books after this one but the fluff is really starting to outweigh the parts that I enjoy. This is starting to feel like the same ol' same ol' with Lucky having a case, being stonewalled by her parents, and having to blunder around until a solution presents itself. I still enjoyed parts of the book, mostly Lucky herself who, excepting around her parent, is a shining example of a character who excels competency-porn in the confines of her work life.

Lucky the Hard Way by Deborah Coonts

 At the end of the last book, Lucky’s best friend and former lover, Teddie, was in trouble. In 

Macau no less. So, even though she’s just about to open her own casino, Lucky flies to China to go to Macau and figure out exactly what is going on. It doesn’t help that someone just tried to murder Miss Minnie and someone else is putting enough pressure on her recently shot father that he is worried that their entire family fortune is about to be lost.

Lots of action, not a lot of depth. I do like that the love triangle that could exist, doesn’t. Other authors would draw out Lucky’s love for Teddie but Coonts allows her to feel a nostalgic love rather than a back and forth.
