When to Engage an Earl by Sally MacKenzie

When to Engage an Earl by Sally MacKenzieThe third spinster of Loves Bridge has finally helped her two friends find love and now she gets what she wants most in the world, Spinster House. She moves out of her brother's home and into her own. Too bad she's starting to realize that a home of her own might not be what she really wants.
Alex, Earl of Evans, is also starting to realize that he might want more out of life. His heart was bruised when he was jilted (not quite at the altar but fairly close). It may be that she was just too young. He's discovering that an older woman (twenty-eight) might be the way to go.
This was a nice, gentle story but sort of elliptical. Alex likes Jane, Jane's not sure, 'round and 'round they go, spanning months.

How to Manage a Marquess by Sally MacKenzie

I was so excited for this second book in the Spinster House series and, while it was pretty much a regular MacKenzie romp, I was thrown off by a couple of things. First, the word "cock" was used a lot. A LOT. I have no issues with the word but, Good Golly, how many times does this need to be mentioned. Also, I really didn’t like Anne’s father. I get his storyline as an impetus for Anne to need the Spinster House but it sort of felt forced. Sort of like the way Anne and Nate kept getting forced together.

How to Manage a Marquess by Sally MacKenzieAnne Davenport is twenty-six years old and it appears that her father is about to marry a woman who is twenty-five. She is used to a life of independence and thinks that the Spinster House is a perfect way to keep in control of her life. Too bad her friend Cat wins the draw.

Nate, Marquess of Haywood, is relieved that Cat will be living in the Spinster House. That means she won’t be marrying his cousin, the Duke of Hart. See, there’s this curse… oh, just read the first book. Nate's not interested in marriage for himself because he has to keep his eye out for his cousin. Too bad the tempting Anne Davenport keeps drawing his eye.

What to Do with a Duke by Sally MacKenzie

In the 1600s, the Duke of Hart's great-something-grandfather seduced a woman who then cursed the family. If the men didn't marry for love, they wouldn't live to see their heir born. Also, she set up a spinster house which was to be available to any single woman, past a marriageable age, along with a stipend.

What to Do with a Duke by Sally MacKenzieMiss Hutting, Isabelle "Cat" Catherine, is the oldest daughter of the village vicar. Most of her nine siblings still live her parents' tiny house and she is desperate for privacy. So when the previous resident leaves rather abruptly, Cat knows that the house is meant to be hers. Too bad two of her friends are also anxious to have the house. And too bad the handsome Duke really seems to believe in the curse...
While not my favorite MacKenzie (I didn't buy that her friends would be so vindictive), I'm liking the setup for the series and am already ready to read the next book in the series.
This book goes on sale next Tuesday!

In the Spinster's Bed by Sally MacKenzie

Tiny squees! Sally MacKenzie has a new series and, based on this novella, it is going to be as excellent as the "Naked [Title]" series.

In the Spinster's Bed (Spinster House, #0.5)The series revolves around a house known as the Spinster House, a place for unmarried, older women to stay. Current resident? Belle Frost - er- Franklin. At least that's the name she's been known by for 20 years. And no one knows otherwise until William Wattles (that's Lord William) stumbles across her in the local library. He's hiding out from the scandals caused by his wife (a hero with a wife? Scandalous!) and is shocked to find his first love in the remote village.
Ms. MacKenzie packs a lot into short story, something she's incredible at doing. If you like Sally Mackenzie's Naked series, you will definitely enjoy this book.
