Gnome Schooled by Erik Henry Vick

There is a new Grand Cynosure in town and he is declaring a war on snacks. He had ties to a gnome extremist group but has supposedly cut those ties many years ago. But that war becomes even more important when an angel turns up dead of an overdose on Cheez Its. It's a murder that sends Dru and Leery to work with Ice Cofy, a man who is both Claw and Warder. They will also be sent to a number of different factions in order to figure out who actually supplied the drugs that killed the angel.
Lots of little in jokes to the TV series here. The story starts and ends with the GC but it is so loosely tied to the meat of the actual story (the drug dealers) that it doesn't make much sense but it was highly entertaining.

They Ate Gatsby by Erik Henry Vick

Key witness J. Gatsby is not in court and he's got a good reason, he's dead. His ghost points toward a group of vampires known as the Dead Set. This is a super exclusive group that only someone who moves in high social circles would be able to infiltrate. One who might want to bring along her werewolf partner along as a bodyguard.
This book has an unexpected ending but it was better than the last book because Dru has, finally, stopped talking like a little girl.

Silkie Stalkings by Erik Henry Vick

It's been a little while since I listened to the first three stories but I don't remember Dru talking like a little girl so much. It's REALLY annoying. She's one of the princesses of darkness and a detective on the New York police force but uses words like "Mommy" and several times her speaking is literally described as being a little girl voice. The premise of these stories has always been interesting and Vick does a great job of weaving in lore from the original shows and from myths but this story just didn't work very well.
Dru and Leery are on a new case. Three men have recently thrown themselves off the George Washington Bridge. Strangely, none of the three have no soul on record as having gone to the afterlife. The two detectives realize that all three victims were using an app of "proprietary magic and technology," Sinder. The app is owned by none other than the King of Sin himself, Dru's uncle Luci. Of course, he will not let any information go easily so there are some battles, both mental and physical.

Just for Now by Rosalind James

Just for Now by Rosalind JamesIs there a betrayal worse than finding your partner in your very own bed with someone else? Maybe, but Jenna McKnight can't think of that. It's been over a year and she's been traveling around New Zealand just trying to find herself. Normally she's a teacher but it's the middle of the school year and no one is hiring. Except there is a man who needs a nanny but he immediately insinuates that she's there to seduce him rather than be the nanny to his children.
Finn Douglas is tired of women throwing themselves at him. Yes, he's on the All Blacks but that doesn't mean he wants to live a high-flying life. He's content to stay at home and spend time with his kids. Jenna is a complication. She definitely loves his children but she's also incredibly tempting.
A nice story; we do get to see Jenna and Finn get closer and they are mainly very smart about starting a relationship while in the position of boss/employee which is what makes the ending sort of jarring.

Just Good Friends by Rosalind James

Just Good Friends (Escape to New Zealand, #2)Kate Lamonica moved from the United States to New Zealand in order to escape a stalker. She has zero interest in dating. But she does think that she can take Koti James down a peg. The man goes through women like most people drink water. So she makes a bet with him that he can't just be friends with a woman.
Koti isn't sure why he'd want to be friends with a woman but he figures it can't be that hard. Especially a woman like Kate who he has no interest in. She's not his type at all.
But forced proximity makes for some interesting romantic options and Kate and Koti soon fall in love. It's an interesting story and flows pretty well and we do get to see the two fall in love.

Just This Once by Rosalind James

Just This Once by Rosalind JamesHannah Montgomery is a hardworking marketing director for a women's athletic clothing company. She also raised both her sister and her brother. Who could be more deserving of a break? And her vacation to New Zealand is fantastic. At least until she gets sucked into a riptide and starts to tire.
Drew Callahan sees her swimming and is able to come up by her in a kayak and get her to shore. He's immediately intrigued and asks her out. Hannah is surprised at first but soon takes him  up on his offer. They do all sorts of fun things like hiking and going for coffee astonishing Drew because mostly the women he dates just want him to buy them things. See, Drew is a big time rugby star and makes so much money, he should pay for them (is what they think anyway.)
This was a really interesting story because it is part whirlwind romance but then turns into long distance and they make it work. There were parts of the story that dragged a bit but mostly a fun story.
