Sugar by Lauren Dane

Sugar by Lauren DaneSix years after Gregori and Wren got together, they're finally getting married. Wren was waiting for her career to approach the trajectory of his. Now they're on their way to New York to get married. Except there are storms and they get grounded in Idaho. They decide to road trip it back to Seattle.
A nice story but didn't add much but to the Wren and Gregori story.

Whiskey Sharp: Torn by Lauren Dane

Torn by Lauren DaneCora Silvera walks into her friend's kitchen to find Beau Petty standing at the stove. She knew the tall, ginger, model/chef fifteen years ago but it's a shock to see him again. Especially since she still has a crush on him. And he seems to think that now that she's an adult, she's his cup of tea. They start a relationship but will have to navigate muddy waters including her artistic mother, his cult past, and... well, that's most of it. They're two adults who <gasp> talk to each other (for the most part) with no last Big Misunderstanding at the end. Lovely.

Jagged by Lauren Dane

Rachel Dolan has a past. She was an FBI agent who got trapped by one of the men she was chasing and it changed her life. Leaving the bureau behind, Rachel was delighted to discover that her talent with art translated into a career as a tattoo artist. Yes, she has a routine and a LOT of locks on her doors. A state-of-the-art seucrity system isn't a bad thing either. It makes her feel safe. Also making her feel safe? Vicktor Orlov.
Vicktor knows Rachel's story but that only impresses him - it doesn't scare him off. He doesn't want to tame her or protect her, he just wants her to live her best life and to help her find a way to do that.
And that was my favorite part of this book, that Vicktor is impressed by Rachel's strength and doesn't down play it at all. I wish there had been more come-to-Jesus with her dad and that we had seen a little more courtship, but overall a pretty good read.

Giving Chase by Lauren Dane

This was an interesting premise with high school teacher Maggie Wright getting gussied up and attracting the attention of not one, but two men in town. One is a crazy stalker and the other is the brother of her hero. So that's new and interesting. She actually dates two people before getting together with the hero, Kyle. I liked that. She hadn't been out much, having been told by her mother and sister that beauty beat brains and therefore Maggie was worthless. But now, with cutie pie Alex interested and sheriff Shane Chase asking her out, Maggie's reveling in her new makeover.
Kyle Chase was interested in Maggie but she's off limits since his brother Shane asked her first. But Shane messes up, big time and leaves Kyle with an opening. One he's only too willing to walk into. Even though Maggie's gunshy after having been burned by Shane, Kyle convinces her that he's serious about wanting to be with her. Now they just have to work through Alex.
I didn't love the pacing or the writing but I kept with it and mostly enjoyed this story. I really wanted to read the second book since I was interested to see how Dane could transform him.

Unraveled by Lauren Dane

For over a year Maybe Dolan has been cutting hair at the barbershop (just off a bar) owned by Alexsei Petrov and has been denying her attraction to him the whole time. But Alexsei, out of a serious relationship and tired of chasing women, is ready to step into a relationship with Maybe.
He's a family-oriented man (even his ex is still a part) while her family is pretty broken up. Her parents never treated her like she was an accepted part while doting all their attention on her sister. After her sister went through a fairly horrific experience, Maybe's parents wanted to wrap her up in cotton while Maybe wanted to help her live life. Her parents hate her for that.
This was a three-star book except for Maybe's name. Oh good god. This is a cute name when you hear it but when you have to read it and then try to figure out every sentence and that it doesn't start with "Maybe today she would." The process smoothed out for me about 2/3 of the way through the book but that is a long time to wait.
